Frequently Asked Questions
Mamre is a disability support provider. We deliver disability support services to customers across Brisbane. Our services include Core Supports, Supported Independent Living, Share House Services, Support Coordination, Short Term Accommodation, Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology.
Mamre was established in 1982 and is one of Brisbane’s longest-running not-for-profit disability support providers. Our revenue is funneled back into our community to improve our service offerings and our customers’ quality of life.
The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is an independent statutory agency whose role is to deliver the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The NDIS provides funding to participants to purchase supports to enable them to live the life they choose.
The NDIA sets the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits for participants and disability support providers to ensure participants receive value for money.
No. Mamre’s Allied Health and Short Term Accommodation services are available to customers who do not receive NDIS funding.
There are three ways you can pay for Allied Health services at Mamre if you do not receive NDIS funding:
- Medicare
- Private health cover
- Privately funded
Your GP or Paediatrician may refer you to Allied Health therapy under Medicare. Please connect with your GP and discuss whether you are eligible for therapy services under Medicare. If you have private health insurance, you may be able to claim a rebate. Please check with your fund prior to making an appointment. Some families choose to self-fund their therapy services and pay as they go.
Customers can also privately fund Short Term Accommodation (STA). This option is typically used by participants who have already reached their NDIS funding limit for STA for the year.
Mamre carefully matches each customer with Support Workers who understand their needs and prioritises their interests and hobbies. We ensure that both the customer and the Support Worker are comfortable with each other to deliver the best results for both parties.
Mamre Support Workers help our customers with a range of daily tasks. These include personal hygiene, mobility support, shopping tasks, food preparation, household tasks and community participation. Mamre Support Workers assist our customers to achieve their goals and ensure their needs are met.
Core Supports assist you with everyday activities and capacity building so you can live a more independent life. There are four NDIS Core Support categories: assistance with daily life, assistance with community participation, accessing transport and accessing consumables.
Mamre’s Core Support service is tailored to each customer’s unique needs and goals to ensure you get the best results and value for money. We also match Core Support customers with Support Workers who understand your needs and goals and share similar interests.
Mamre’s Core Support service can assist you with:
- Daily living
- Household tasks
- Community participation
- Life skills development
- Achieving your goals
Supported Independent Living (SIL) helps you to live in your own home. It is best suited to people with disability who have higher support needs, such as overnight care and assistance with daily tasks. SIL includes help or supervision with daily tasks, like personal care or cooking meals. It helps you live as independently as possible, while building your skills.
You can access SIL if you live in a share house or in a house by yourself. Mamre assists SIL customers to find a home that suits their needs. Mamre can also assist with financial management of your SIL funding and can pair you with Support Workers who will help you with daily living and capacity building so you can live independently in your home.
Short Term Accommodation (STA) is NDIS funding for alternative accommodation when your usual support network isn’t available or when you want to enjoy a break away. It can also be part of your longer term plan to live independently, effectively learning how to live away from home in short bursts of time.
NDIS funding, subject to your individual plan, can cover accommodation for up to 14 days, supporting you to meet your needs and work towards your individual goals.
Mamre’s STA services are most often organised for small groups and can be tailored to individual getaways if you are eligible. Mamre can also organise privately funded STA.
Mamre currently offers two types of Allied Health therapy: Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy. Occupational Therapists can help you build new skills, grow your independence, and assist with activities like self-care, fine motor skills and social skills. Speech Pathologists work with you to develop literacy, speech and language skills and can also assist with mealtimes, eating, drinking and swallowing.
Support Coordination helps put your NDIS plan into action and make the most of your plan funding. Support Coordinators assist you to understand your NDIS plan and connect you with the best NDIS providers and community services for your goals. Support Coordinators also assist with capacity building so you can grow your confidence and skills to coordinate your support independently.
Mamre Support Coordinators empower you to choose the providers and services you prefer to connect with. Our team will also assist you with plan reassessment so you can maximise your funding to achieve your goals.
