Decision Making Possibilities Project

September 11, 2020

Mamre has an exciting new supported decision making project starting in October. We are calling this new project Decision Making Possibilities.

Mamre is looking for 12 people who mostly communicate without using words or speech to join the project. They will be our Decision Makers who will be joined by their Decision Supporter. This could be a family member, friend, or another supporter.

The project aims to develop people’s knowledge and experience of supported decision making. And create a framework for decision making that can be used by others.

This project will build on previous research to strengthen the rights, voice, and capacity of people with complex communication needs.

The project will run for 2 years total. During this time, the 12 Decision Makers and their supporters, will meet every 1 to 2 months. There is also no cost to Decision Makers and their supporters.

Activities for the project will include:

  • person-centred planning
  • creating the Decision Makers network
  • speech pathology and communication support
  • learning about supported decision making

This project is funded by an ILC grant and is a joint project between WA’s Individualised Services, MamreSotica, and the Decision Agency.

We are excited about this project taking place in Brisbane. Similarly, there will be another group of Decision Makers and their supporters in Perth enjoying the same adventure.

Interested in learning more or joining the project? If so, you can contact Mamre’s Project Lead Marissa Carlyon at [email protected] or call (07) 3622 1222 or 0429 693 842. We can’t wait to hear from you!
