Words by Veronica Wain, Power to You’s Project Lead
The end of the year has seen our Power to You co-design team and project partners racing towards the finish line in preparation for our official launch in February, 2022.
We hosted our first community-based event last month at The Lovewell Project where we were able to bring one of our co-designers Olivia together with some of our other Mamre members for some down time and a photoshoot. With the help of our project partner, Just Media Design and the in-house expertise of Penelope and Christopher, we’ve captured some new images to include in our resources and had a great time doing so!
November and early December has seen us attending swimming training, dance concerts, barbeques, workplaces, the Queensland Human Rights Commission and our co-designers’ homes as they share what their good lives look like. Our community will be able to see and hear their stories online in February when we release five more modules for the Power To You platform. You will meet Olivia, Sean, Tiffany and Justin, so stay tuned for our launch — details will be released in January as we enter our New Year!
In case you hadn’t heard, The Power to You motto is Make it Happen!
The program will take you on a learning journey to:
• Think about and uncover what your version of a good life looks like
• Plan with resources that will help you create the life you choose
• Find the roles you have or want in your personal life, community and work life
• Understand your rights to inclusion, participation, privacy and confidentiality
• ‘Make it Happen’ by turning your vision into reality
Co-designed by people with disabilities for an accessible learning experience, Power to You is person-centred and focuses on the strengths, choices and ambitions of young adults.
The website is now live with the first three modules – we invite you to take a look and hear from our first three co-designers:
We look forward to welcoming you to the Power to You community and hosting our launch in February.
