Telehealth Occupational Therapy

June 25, 2020

It’s fun to learn new kitchen skills during telehealth occupational therapy appointments. A motivated young cook, his family and Mamre’s Occupational Therapist Diana have been working together around meal preparation skills. All via telehealth appointment!

This young man is a very motivated cook with excellent skills in the kitchen!  He is working on his health, cooking and independence in the kitchen.

Diana, Mamre’s OT, offered guidance to the family during therapy to provide the right amount of support. Diana also provided some ideas for assistive technology. Assistive technology can make mealtime preparation tasks easier and quicker. This cook is so keen to complete more of the elements himself.

Before their bake-off therapy sessions, the young man sends Diana his chosen recipe.  Diana converts the recipe into simple steps and makes the information more accessible.

The recipes are carefully selected to match dietician guidelines because this cook has identified that staying healthy is important for him!

He also makes sure he has all ingredients and utensils ready before the session.  These therapy cooking sessions are held via telehealth live video link which is working remarkably well.  At the moment so many people are staying indoors, but we can all keep working towards our goals with telehealth.
