Thinking About Your Spiritual Goals and Aspirations

One of the significant questions the NDIS is asking people with disabilities and their families to consider is “What are your goals and aspirations for the future”?  This is a great question for people with disabilities and their families to think through in relation to how they would like their life to look in 12 months, 2 years, 5 years; whatever timeframe is relevant to you.  If we have a spiritual dimension to our life and we are exploring this question, are we including our spirituality as part of those goals and aspirations for the future?

There are various expressions of spirituality in the Mamre community.  For some it’s expressed through being a part of a community of people who share similar beliefs and values.  For others, it’s being a part of a local church.  For others still it’s being close to nature.  Whatever your expression, I believe your experience can be enhanced by thinking about where you’re heading and what steps may help you get there.

If you’re on a spiritual journey, thinking about the following may help you with exploring your goals and aspirations:

A spiritual stocktake of your life.

What do I really believe?  How do I express that belief?

Who is currently speaking into my life?

If you analyse your life, I’m sure you can identify a number of sources that speak into your life, e.g. media, spiritual advisors…  Are they helping me get to my goals and aspirations?

What am I reading?  Again, is this material helping me towards my goals and aspirations?

These are simple questions that I believe are worth asking.   They may help us to think about where we are heading and how we might get there.  They can also help us evaluate what input we have in our life and where that is coming from.   What are your spiritual goals and aspirations for the future?
